Travel to one of the most iconic landmarks in the world with this 2023 three-ounce fine silver Taj Mahal $10 coin. Issued by Solomon Islands in 2023, the coin features a square shape with an antique finish and striking blue enamel.
The Taj Mahal, an immense mausoleum of white marble, was built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is now considered the jewel of architectural art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage. It no doubt partially owes its renown to the moving circumstances of its construction. Shah Jahan, in order to perpetuate the memory of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631, had this funerary mosque built. The monument, begun in 1632, was finished in 1648 (which is also the mintage of this coin).
The coin design puts the viewer at the edge of an ornamental pool and fountain in front of the main Taj Mahal building. The pool is coloured in a rich blue enamel, while the background features and antique silver finish. The enamel is translucent, providing stunning reflective image of the Taj Mahal in the water.
