Product Overview
This is a premium quality "Gem Uncirculated" example of Canada’s 1957 silver dollar. It has been independently third party certified as Mint State 65 by ICCS (International Coin Certification Service), Canada’s most respected and trusted grading service. Only a very small percentage of coins from this era have survived in this exceptional condition, making it both visually appealing and extremely rare for collectors to acquire.
Unlike coins made especially for collectors, business strike silver dollars like this were normally poured into and out of tote bins by the mint, bulk weighed, counted, and then shipped loose to the banks in canvas bags holding 1000 coins, which would normally bang against each other and cause many surface marks. Â A coin graded "Gem Uncirculated" 65 will have a surface with almost no marks.Â
.
Original silver coins dating back more than 65 years usually have some golden or light brown surface toning. This is natural oxidation which is considered normal and even desirable by many collectors. The coin comes protected and security sealed in standard ICCS certification holder, including the assigned grade of MS-65 and a unique certification number.
The reverse design features the classic Native Canadian and Voyageur design, while the obverse features the original young effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Â
