Product Overview

This extremely rare and dramatic 1981 Canadian error one-cent coin has been struck on a small elliptical blank fragment that was clipped from a regular blank in the blanking process.  It is extremely rare for a small fragment like this to be fed into the coining press, and even rarer for the small fragment to include the full date. Topping off the desirability of this coin, it is in pristine gem uncirculated condition, and has been independently graded and certified by PCGS as Gem Uncirculated MS-66 Red.

As a result of modern technology and excellent quality control at the Royal Canadian Mint, major error coins are rare in Canada, but with the large volume of coins produced for circulation, a few error coins will occasionally escape scrutiny at the mint and make it out to the banks and into the hands of collectors.

One of the rarest and most sought-after of all possible error coins results when a blank that is radically different from the standard size and shape is struck. This small elliptical fragment coin is also struck slightly off centre, resulting in a three-dimensional raised edge on one side.

Includes:
• Error Coin: 1981 Cent Struck on Elliptical Clip Fragment
