2024 $30 Fine Silver Signs of the Zodiac

This large-format 2024 $30 fine silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint is an artistic fusion of ancient mythology with modern art and technology. Enhanced with selective colour, the design features an engraved celestial illustration of the sun and moon surrounded by the 12 signs of the zodiac.

Inspired by classical Greek sculpture, the figures representing each sign on the outer circle are paired with their corresponding glyph in the second band, which is set against a colourful night sky, and these are numbered based on their zodiacal order (beginning at the top and moving in a counterclockwise direction): Aries (1), Taurus (2), Gemini (3), Cancer (4), Leo (5), Virgo (6), Libra (7), Scorpio (8), Sagittarius (9), Capricorn (10), Aquarius (11) and Pisces (12).

The names of the constellations of the western zodiac come from the 12 Olympian gods of Greek mythology. Each god is the protector of their own sign, and every sign denotes a different personality type, with its own strengths and weaknesses. Each sign is influenced by a planet or star. These bear the names of figures from ancient Roman mythology which have an equivalent in Greek mythology—for example, Venus is Aphrodite and the sun is Helios. The obverse features the posthumous memorial effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, including the $20 denomination, the 2024 date and the dates of Her Majesty's reign: 1952–2022.
