2025 $20 Dancing Ammolite Fine Silver Coin - Genuine Canadian Ammolite
This exquisite 2025 $20 fine silver coin combines the rarity and beauty of Ammolite—one of Canada's rarest and most spectacular gemstones—with the magic of motion which shows off its iridescent and dynamic colours.
This second in the Royal Canadian Mint's series is themed as "Elements of Nature - Earth." The life-sustaining element that lies beneath our feet is beautifully represented by the blossoming motif that evokes nature's cyclical rebirth and renewal, and by the branches and roots that are symbolic of steadfast, enduring growth. Selectively plated with yellow gold on the coin's reverse, these engraved elements surround the ammolite mounted at the centre, where the rare Canadian gemstone embodies the rhythm of life, bouncing and flashing its lively colours with every movement. The ammolite is mounted and housed in a 3D frame fashioned by Canadian-owned-and-operated Beverly Hills Jewellers. The special jewellery mount allows the ammolite to move and flash its colour with the slightest movement of its coin base.
Ammolite is the official gemstone of Alberta. It is ethically mined from the province's Bearpaw Geological Formation and that is the only place in the world where commercial quantities of gem-quality ammolite are found. Ammolite is an opal-like organic made of fossilized shells of ammonites dating back to over 70 million years ago. The gemstone can have a wide range of patterns, with iridescence and dynamic colours that shine from across the spectrum. The patterns can also range from solid colours to intricate designs resembling flames, watercolour paintings or even stained glass. The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Steven Rosatti.
