The Royal Canadian Mint has issued several different coins in the past few years inspired by exquisite jewellery in the Royal Collection, and all have these have been extremely popular. This 2025 $200 fine gold coin extends the coin series as it re-creates one of Queen Elizabeth II's most iconic brooches, the flower-shaped Williamson Diamond Brooch. The coin itself is of the finest jewellery quality, crafted in nearly two ounces of pure gold and including a genuine 0.50-carat round fancy-cut pink tourmaline gemstone and 28 round-cut diamonds with a total of 0.41 carats total weight.
The original jewel features a gorgeous pink diamond, one of the largest and finest of its kind, which was a wedding gift from Canadian geologist John Thoburn Williamson. The extraordinary jewel was cut and set into a platinum-and-diamond brooch completed in 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, and was frequently worn throughout her seven-decade reign, appearing in family portraits, at state occasions and momentous celebrations.
The coin design re-creates the look of the original brooch. An engraved five-petalled jonquil flower is adorned with a platinum-plated mount consisting of a 0.50-carat round-cut pink tourmaline gemstone and 28 round-cut diamonds (0.41 carat total weight). The stylized floral accents engraved on both sides of the sparkling centrepiece are also inspired by the royal brooch and are plated with platinum. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
