Product Overview
One of the most popular sets of coins produced each year by the Royal Canadian Mint is the Specimen Set. This collection features some of the highest-quality coins struck for collectors, all housed in an elegant book format presentation. Six denominations from five cents to two dollars are found in the set, including the elusive low-mintage half-dollar which is not issued for circulation. The highlight of the set is a unique one-dollar coin featuring the Blanding's turtle. This highly collectible coin cannot be found in circulation or in any other coin set. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Unique Commemorative Loon Dollar Design Featuring the Blanding's Turtle
Designed by Canadian artist Pierre Girard, the special-issue one-dollar coin features a Blanding's turtle sunning itself on a log in its wetland habitat. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Did you know?
A newly hatched Blanding's turtle is about the same size as this specimen dollar coin. A hatchling's small size and soft shell puts it at high risk of becoming an easy meal for predators such as raccoons, skunks, foxes and crows, but by the age of two, the turtle has grown a little larger and the shell has hardened enough to give the young turtle a fighting chance in the wild.
